State of distortion

The Catholic Register’s Aug. 21 editorial explains how euphemistically named Medical Aid in Dying is rapidly expanding in Canada.

Genocidal infection

Time will tell whether Pope Francis’ declaration of “genocide” is an existential threat to the Church. His admission, however, was an “existential” challenge to me. Francis’ penitential pilgrimage forced me to examine those remote, ignored and unacknowledged “reserves” in my soul that nurture the concealed attitudes and forbidden affections that are insidious infections from which “genocide” spreads.

Tone deafness

My heart sank to read an article as well as a letter to the editor in the July 24-31 Catholic Register. In both, the writers told Indigenous peoples they should extend forgiveness once our Holy Father presents an apology on Canadian soil.

Lead on, Milloy

Kudos to John Milloy for his July 10-17 column “Building a consistent culture of life.”

Knife job

The editorial, “Pick a faith lane” slyly slipped a stiletto into the theological integrity of Pope Francis.

Government watch

In his June 26 article “Canada flagged for religious freedom watch list,” Quinton Amundson explains why some Ohio lawmakers want to add Canada to a list of countries in which religious freedom is at risk. The concern arose from repeated pandemic-related closure of places of worship in 2020 and 2021.

Whole story

Thank you to Fr. John Gallagher for being a voice of reason. Everything he wrote in “Reputations ruined over residential school graves” on June 13 [/opinion/guest-columnists/item/34502-reputations-ruined-over-residential-school-graves] is what I have said since these stories broket.

Farrow informative

In her June 12 column “MAiD to Measure,” Anna Farrow presents an informative history of euthanasia legislation in Canada, showing the advance in sheer ghoulishness over the past seven years.

See and do

It seems Lise Anglin’s letter to the editor regarding my article of May 15 did not take into consideration the advisory committee report on racism and discrimination in the Canadian armed forces, let alone the audience to whom it was directed.
